My new favorite person is from Nova Scotia

Just found out a collector in Nova Scotia picked up three of my paintings at the Leigh Gallery this month. Yahoo! The three pieces are from my Strata+Sphere series about my life growing up in Milwaukee. They are the same size, 12" x 12" x 2", and are all watercolor on board, employing transparent techniques.

I'm super excited to hear about this sale! Thanks Leigh Gallery, and thank you new collector, whoever you are!

Two Series live at Tease

I am very excited to announce a new one-woman show now live at Tease Salon (2222 S Kinnickinnic Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53207). The team at Tease did a fantastic job posting the show - the quirky antiques and cool vibe at Tease really make my stuff look great!

For this show, I am presenting pieces from two very different series: 1) the Discarded series, representative watercolor works inspired by antique photography and 2) Strata+Sphere, multimedia abstract works inspired by my childhood in Milwaukee.

For those in the area, Tease takes part in Bay View Gallery Night and I will be there for the grand opening of this show the evening of June 3, 2016. Come one, come all!

Opening at Pizza Rustica Bistro & Bar in Chicago

Stop by to see the "Strata+Sphere" show at Pizza Rustica Bistro & Bar in Chicago.

In this series of abstract works, entitled “Strata+Sphere”, I used layered painting techniques to depict abstract memories of growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My main interest in painting lies in storytelling. The layered painting techniques that I have developed – using opaque and transparent mediums to build up layers of color and texture, scraping and washing back to reveal earlier layers and then building up and covering up again, shows a history of what went before, even if in a very subtle way. This tells a story both of my painting process and of my subject matter. In this series, I incorporate varied mediums to achieve my goals, including watercolor on board, oil/cold wax, collage and charcoal.

The opening is on Sunday October 25, 2015 from 1230-230, and the show will be running for 3 months.

Just won an award from Watercolor Artist Magazine

Super excited to share this news - I just found out that not only did I win an award in a national watercolor competition, I will also be published in the April 2015 issue of Watercolor Artist Magazine! Yippee!

Here is an excerpt from the email just received a few minutes ago:

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to inform you that you've won Honorable Mention in this year's Watermedia Showcase competition. As such, your painting, "Faded Chalkboard Memories," will be published in the April 2015 issue of Watercolor Artist.

"Faded Chalkboard Memories" is from my Discarded series - images inspired by vintage snapshots and photography that I find in antique stores.

I am over-the-moon!

Testing The Waters

New gallery, work on TV and big sale

Quite an eventful week here at Rochelle Weiner Fine Art!

First I found out that I was just juried in as a new member of the venerable ARC Gallery here in Chicago. I was juried in and will be meeting with them this weekend to find out how we get started! Here's a bit of info about them, from their website:

ARC Gallery is an internationally recognized exhibition space that has been an integral part of the Chicago art scene since its inception in 1973.   Founded during the women’s movement as an alternative to the mainstream gallery system, ARC is one of the oldest co-ops of its kind in the country.

As a non-profit, woman artist-run cooperative, ARC continues its feminist tradition by providing exhibition opportunities for professional and emerging artists working in all media based on excellence of artwork, without discrimination toward gender, race, age, class, physical/mental ability, sexual, spiritual or political orientation.

Next, I learned that three of my paintings will soon be seen on national TV. Great thanks to The Leigh Gallery for setting this up!

NBC's Chicago Fire chose another of my works to use on one of their sets - it was "Florentine Market" - watercolor and ink. This is I think the 7th or 8th time they have used my work on their show.

And "Sense8", a new show premiering on Netflix in 2015 is using two watercolor works, "Testing the Waters" and "Down by the River".

And to top it all off, one of my large scale oil/cold wax paintings just sold. "Green Dawn", 36" x 36" x 2", oil/cold wax on cradled board sold yesterday at the Andersonville Galleria.

All in all, a pretty fantastic week!
