I am opening my "Strata+Sphere" exhibit in two locations in Milwaukee starting July 24 2015.

This series of abstract works, titled “Strata+Sphere” combines a layered painting technique with layered memories of growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The collection is comprised of a mix of oil/cold wax works alongside watercolor/multimedia pieces. Large scale works will be on display at LuLu Cafe & Bar in Bay View and and smaller pieces will be at Juniper 61 in Milwaukee.

Show opening at Juniper 61 in Milwaukee

I am very excited to announce that I will be showing two concurrent shows in Milwaukee starting July 17, 2015 - wow! I just agreed to post at Juniper 61 (6030 W North Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53213) at the same time that I am showing at Lulu's Café (2265 S Howell Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53207). I will be showing a series of abstract works at both shows - large works at Lulu's and smaller works at Juniper 61 - but all part of the same series of work.

My work is all over the "I Love Chicago" store

Very excited to report about the new I Love Chicago shop at 316 N Michigan Ave, Chicago. I had dropped off my work a few weeks ago before they started renovating. I didn't know what was in store but if the O'Hare shop where I also show my work was any suggestion I knew they were up to something good.

This weekend I had occasion to stop by and I was blown away. I was with my mom and we walked through enjoying every beautifully merchandised inch of this gorgeous new shop. It was like night and day from my first visit. Kudos to the team at I Love Chicago - fantastic job!

Best yet was the experience of walking through this beautifully designed store and spotting my work - literally everywhere! They are featuring several originals, matted prints, framed prints, greeting cards and designed boxes - dotted in every corner of the shop. What an amazing thrill for me! and right on Michigan Avenue!

I have high hopes for a long and fortuitous partnership with this super cool shop! If you're in town and strolling down Michigan Avenue, I highly recommend you stop by. It's located 1/2 block south of the river on the north side of the street - I Love Chicago - you can't miss it!

Update to this story 10/17/14: Found out this week that the I Love Chicago store was nominated for Best New Concept store in the country! Kudos to the whole team!

Art Retreat 2014

Just got back from a 4 day artist's retreat in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. 8 oil/cold wax painters, sharing a beautiful space at Shake Rag Alley, working side by side - what a great trip. Coincidentally there was a plein air competition happening the same weekend  in Mineral Point so we were surrounded by art and artists all weekend. It was fabulous! Below are some abstract oil/cold wax paintings I was working on during those four days, in various stages of done-ness.

First day of workshop

Currently studying watercolor techniques with Karlyn Holman - today was abstract day. We worked with collage and watercolor for half the day and the other half of  the day we learned to work with alcohol inks. Having a ton of fun!

5 originals sold in June

I am very excited to report that I have sold 5 originals this month. Three to my good friends who have just moved in together (their first art purchase together) and a 4th and 5th are a commissioned portraits. I can't post the portraits yet as they are both surprise gifts, but the three paintings my friends purchased are below.

New studio!

Ok - the new studio is finally completed. Yay! I spent the last few weeks renovating my spare room into a real art studio. (Sorry overnight guests, you'll have to bunk up in the office now). Super excited about getting to work in the new space!

Galleria refreshed

I have been renting a booth space at the Andersonville Galleria for a couple years now - it is a happy space for me. It was the first place I started showing my work, and not only have I made many sales, but I have also met some great people and been "found" by some people who have helped my career as a Chicago painter along on it's merry way.

A couple weeks ago I revamped my booth. I put up a fresh coat of paint, and put up all new art (save my portrait samples). I took down florals and put up abstracts. I took down my old landscapes and put up my Absurdity Birdity and Snow Day series. Now in addition to watercolors you'll also find encaustic paintings and oil/cold wax paintings. All new matted prints are available too.

It's a whole new booth. If you haven't visited recently I invite you to come take a new look. It's the Rochelle Weiner Fine Art booth, on the first floor, in the back.

TIP: If you let me know you're planning a visit, I can meet you there. And if you buy an original while I am there, I may extend you a courtesy discount!

Workshop with Karlyn Holman

I've just returned from a week long workshop with Karlyn Holman in Washburn Wisconsin. This is the 4th year in a row I've attended a workshop with her. Karlyn is such an inspiring person - she's created a wonderful life for herself in the arts. She is a great artist, she teaches in her studio and in workshops all over the world, she has a thriving business in an idyllic small town - she really is a wonder.

The first class I took with Karlyn a few years ago opened my eyes. Her success has inspired me change my life and pursue fine art as a career - something I never really believed was a feasible goal until I met Karlyn. Thank you, Karlyn - you are my inspiration!

Each year, Karlyn has new techniques to teach and new directions to take us. Each year I come away with inspiration to feed my studio time, incorporating the new ideas I've learned into my own work.

Below are my finished pieces derived from the lessons we worked on last week.
