JUL 24 2015 - Strata+Sphere - Art Exhibit in Milwaukee

I am opening my "Strata+Sphere" exhibit in two locations in Milwaukee starting July 24 2015.

Click here to see the collection

This series of abstract works, titled “Strata+Sphere” combines a layered painting technique with layered memories of growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The collection is comprised of a mix of oil/cold wax works alongside watercolor/multimedia pieces. Large scale works will be on display at LuLu Cafe & Bar in Bay View and and smaller pieces will be at Juniper 61 in Milwaukee.

Show opening at Juniper 61 in Milwaukee

I am very excited to announce that I will be showing two concurrent shows in Milwaukee starting July 17, 2015 - wow! I just agreed to post at Juniper 61 (6030 W North Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53213) at the same time that I am showing at Lulu's Café (2265 S Howell Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53207). I will be showing a series of abstract works at both shows - large works at Lulu's and smaller works at Juniper 61 - but all part of the same series of work.

Very excited to announce an upcoming one-woman show in my home town, Milwaukee. The show opens on July 17, 2015 at Lulu's Café in Bay View (2265 S Howell Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53207). I am developing a series of abstract works specifically for this show, most of which are currently in the works, but in the vein of the work pictured above, "Egg on your face".

The opening on July 17 coincides with a city-wide art walk.

Just won an award from Watercolor Artist Magazine

Super excited to share this news - I just found out that not only did I win an award in a national watercolor competition, I will also be published in the April 2015 issue of Watercolor Artist Magazine! Yippee!

Here is an excerpt from the email just received a few minutes ago:

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to inform you that you've won Honorable Mention in this year's Watermedia Showcase competition. As such, your painting, "Faded Chalkboard Memories," will be published in the April 2015 issue of Watercolor Artist.

"Faded Chalkboard Memories" is from my Discarded series - images inspired by vintage snapshots and photography that I find in antique stores.

I am over-the-moon!

My work is all over the "I Love Chicago" store

Very excited to report about the new I Love Chicago shop at 316 N Michigan Ave, Chicago. I had dropped off my work a few weeks ago before they started renovating. I didn't know what was in store but if the O'Hare shop where I also show my work was any suggestion I knew they were up to something good.

This weekend I had occasion to stop by and I was blown away. I was with my mom and we walked through enjoying every beautifully merchandised inch of this gorgeous new shop. It was like night and day from my first visit. Kudos to the team at I Love Chicago - fantastic job!

Best yet was the experience of walking through this beautifully designed store and spotting my work - literally everywhere! They are featuring several originals, matted prints, framed prints, greeting cards and designed boxes - dotted in every corner of the shop. What an amazing thrill for me! and right on Michigan Avenue!

I have high hopes for a long and fortuitous partnership with this super cool shop! If you're in town and strolling down Michigan Avenue, I highly recommend you stop by. It's located 1/2 block south of the river on the north side of the street - I Love Chicago - you can't miss it!

Update to this story 10/17/14: Found out this week that the I Love Chicago store was nominated for Best New Concept store in the country! Kudos to the whole team!

ARC

The ARC Gallery

I visited the ARC Gallery for an opening this weekend, and was for the first time introduced to the group as a member. What a thrill! They even put my name up on the wall (see below).

The ARC Gallery at 2156 N Damen in Chicago is an all-women membership and the members run the gallery. So I will be learning about curating, putting up shows, taking down shows, community outreach, selling work, running a non-profit, and all sorts of things I can't even imagine right now.

I am so thrilled that this very cool institution has accepted me as a member and can't wait to get started!

Testing The Waters

New gallery, work on TV and big sale

Quite an eventful week here at Rochelle Weiner Fine Art!

First I found out that I was just juried in as a new member of the venerable ARC Gallery here in Chicago. I was juried in and will be meeting with them this weekend to find out how we get started! Here's a bit of info about them, from their website:

ARC Gallery is an internationally recognized exhibition space that has been an integral part of the Chicago art scene since its inception in 1973.   Founded during the women’s movement as an alternative to the mainstream gallery system, ARC is one of the oldest co-ops of its kind in the country.

As a non-profit, woman artist-run cooperative, ARC continues its feminist tradition by providing exhibition opportunities for professional and emerging artists working in all media based on excellence of artwork, without discrimination toward gender, race, age, class, physical/mental ability, sexual, spiritual or political orientation.

Next, I learned that three of my paintings will soon be seen on national TV. Great thanks to The Leigh Gallery for setting this up!

NBC's Chicago Fire chose another of my works to use on one of their sets - it was "Florentine Market" - watercolor and ink. This is I think the 7th or 8th time they have used my work on their show.

And "Sense8", a new show premiering on Netflix in 2015 is using two watercolor works, "Testing the Waters" and "Down by the River".

And to top it all off, one of my large scale oil/cold wax paintings just sold. "Green Dawn", 36" x 36" x 2", oil/cold wax on cradled board sold yesterday at the Andersonville Galleria.

All in all, a pretty fantastic week!
