I just entered the above painting, "Faded Chalkboard Memories" into the Illinois Watercolor Society's annual member show. It's a juried show so fingers crossed my painting will get noticed. I had a good spy of the competition when I dropped off and there are some serious contenders in that room!

schoolThe painting is a continuation of my "Discarded" series which features images inspired by vintage photography picked up in antique stores and junk shops. I like the idea of taking a discarded memory and giving it new life.

This particular painting was inspired by an image I found of a group kids lined up for their annual class photo (at left). It got me thinking about the commonality of that memory for most American kids, and how much memory fades as time goes by. I changed schools in first grade and as a result I can't remember more than one or two kids from my kindergarten class.

Faded Chalkboard Memories measures 22" x 30" x 2" and is watercolor and watercolor pencil on aquaboard. For pricing, inquire within.
